    Windows 2003 Cert. Authourity issues

    Hi Guys

Thought I'd throw this one open to the Hexites as I'm not sure what to do

    The Situation:
We have a dev domain thats used by our webdev team to test stuff. To try an replicate an issue with a production box they want to replicate the config as close as possible with the production environment. The server with issues in prod has a cert issued by our CA (W2k3) but the server in dev has no cert. Ok thought I just create a cert for it on the CA in dev environment. Ahhh slight issue the server running CA in dev has been decommisioned and as far as AD is concerened it still exists. Now I'm unsure of the issues of creating a new CA in the domain when the old one hasnt been decommisioned properly.

The only other opttion I can see is getting a cert issued by a third party..

or am I missing something really easy?

Make sure the server will never be used again.
    Delete the computer account.
Use ADSIedit to delete it's certificate. It's in the configuration partition under services, Public key services, certification authorities. Check the rest of the contents under Public key services as it will have published it'd CDP's etc as well.

    The usual IT caveats apply.
