Hi guys,

Well I run a home network in my house using a hub to share my AOL broadband connection, now for my problem - I usually have to use a program called wingate to share the aol web connection.

However now I have recently purchased a laptop and upon plugging it in I have found that it "automatically" has configured itself without the wingate program.

I would find it much easier if all the computers did this and I could just get rid of the wingate program alltogether.

All the PC's including the laptop are running win XP sp1 so I dont believe it is due to a difference in OS, although the laptop was upgraded from XP home whereas the others all had a fresh install.

Any thoughts?

you can't share AOL without WinGate on the server machine, the clients should all be fine if configured to obtain settings automatically.

AOL isn't a real internet connection, they invented their own standards, hence normal sharing software & hardware is incompatible

What exactly is your network? How is your adsl connected?

ADSL is connected to a server machine with all the PC's networked together via a 5 port hub. I understand that AOL needs wingate which is why the fact that my laptop minus wingate works fine with just the automatically detect settings enabled in IE is so confusing.
