What is the best security suite at the moment?

I'm currently running Kaspersky but, the key won't work with the 2012 version and I've lost the installation file for 2010.

Also, I'm not that happy with it as last time I installed 2011 and had problems with it affecting some programs. After finding out it was a known problem I reverted to the 2010 version but, It always slows down the launch speed of programs.

Re: What is the best security suite at the moment?

Since I switched to MS Security Essentials, I haven't missed Kaspersky at all.

In fact, I'm a heck of a lot happier without it. I really can't see the point in a Security Suite now, unless you're the kind of person who downloads viruses all day long and expects their system to magically fix it all for them.

I personally use Eset on my main machine, but only because I still have a licence for it.

MSE + Windows Firewall does the trick perfectly. Works on my Server 2008 R2 install as well

Add another vote for MSE. I switched to it from nod32 a year or so ago, and haven't looked back since. I use sandboxie to open potentially dodgy executables, just to be sure.

I used to use Sandboxie, Can't think why I stopped using it.

Re: What is the best security suite at the moment?

I'm not a fan of suites for security. I'd rather pick separate products as best of breed, or best of free breed, and be able to change components as and when needed, to fine-tune. Right now, for me, that means Avast for AV, Comodo for a firewall, and SAS and MBAM on demand.

eset for me wont use anything else. USed to use kaspersky but it was horrible and bloated and used to randomly make up viruses for me.

Someone recommending Norton on a tech forum?!

Another vote for MSE. Norton can go DIAF
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

I wouldn't touch it ever again. I always thought it was crap and then having read on a tech forum that the new version in 2009 was great, I foolishly installed it on my laptop which then got a few viruses while I was in the Ukraine which Norton never detected.

    Exactly the same for me.
Kaspersky was great, but just became a shackle when it came to system speed with the the newer versions.

For sweep scans of malaware MBAM (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) is slightly better IMHO, though to be honest since hardening up browser security with the likes of noscript and using windows 7 I've not seen a such a need (any really) for spy/adware cleanups.

Anti viruses are for noobs. i once went 3-4montsh with no anti virus as i forgot to install one. not a single crash/issue/virus.

If you know where to browse and what not to browse and click on, u will be fine without one IMO
