Win7 to Win7 transfer of ALL my setting etc

    Lo dudes

If I upgrade my mobo and cpu and ram I will install Win7 fresh.

What do I use to TOTALLY replicate all my settings, shotcuts etc from old to new?

Xp had transfer wizard but I cant' find it in Control Panel.. where's it gone?

I found Backup and restore.. no use, it's a new install
I found Restore my computer to an earlier time.. no use
there's a million other things.. but where has the file transfer gadget gone?

I swear, XP was more intuitive than some of Win7.

It's called Windows Easy Transfer, should come up if you search Transfer in the start menu.

Re: Win7 to Win7 transfer of ALL my setting etc

I could be mistaken and it's something similar instead, but it seems Windows 7 calls it Windows Easy Transfer.

All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Windows Easy Transfer.

EDIT: Beaten to it by snootyjim, but the location is above.

It is sort of, under System and Security -> Backup and Restore. Link to Easy Transfer in Bottom left.

Re: Win7 to Win7 transfer of ALL my setting etc

You know what? When I upgraded my mobo, cpu and graphics card, all I did was swap them over and use the drive as is.. it installed all the drivers for the cpu and mobo when it booted up automatically. (I went from dual core to quad core)

I thought that was pretty nice and didn't need me to reinstall windows and mess around restoring my settings/programs.

You were lucky! I've done it around 15 times now with various equipment and had it work 3 times......oddly plenty of intel>intel mobos failed and two intel>amd swaps worked perfectly.

When it works, it works great!
    I'll count myself lucky then.
