although there is 4.7gb on the disc nero will use quite a bit to do read in's and read out's so to keep the problem from happening make it about 4.5gb your upper limit.

nero always re-encodes video - is this what you're talking about? video dvd rather than data?
It would still have to cache to disk regardless as it can't be burnt disc to disc on the fly - generally doesn't take very long (in the grander scheme of things)
dvd image will always be cached to disc afaik - it's been the same on any product I've used.

Ok fellas, legality issues aside, can we PLEASE type properly. I may have something useful to contribute to this thread, but if I have to waste any more time deciphering the mobile phone style text typing I won't stop to help, I'll just move on.

Oh, and ONE MORE 'wtf' is not going to go down well either. Although it's an abbreviation, it IS still swearing.

So, keep it clean and try and make it legible, ok?

I have had a nightmare of day, which may well turn into a nightmare of a month and my usual helpful, happy demeanor is not present. So make my life and your own easier by taking a little more time to get your message over.

    Thank you.

If "his own disc" means a DVD he has authored using material that he owns the copyright to then it is completely legal.

However, if that were the case, the disc would be single layer and small enough to fit on one disc...surely??

yes "chez" exactly my point...lT IS LEGAL AS HE OWNS THE ORIGINAL AND JUST WANTS A COPY OF HIS OWN! besides he aint distrobuting it. he has a digital camera, which records what it captures to a mini dvd disc. so... he wants to copy his holiday movie to a normal size dvd disc, so that he can wipe the digital camera's mini dvd. he wants to do this so that he can record a new movie onto the min dvd disc. so finally can anyone help.

Nonetheless, the data on the MiniDVD should be small enough to fit onto a standard DVD-R disc.

yeh thats what should happen...but it don't.it says stuff about not being enough space.the wierd thing is that he has like 400mb space on his hdd and like he burned a cdr
of his pictures from has camera, and that took up nearly a whole disc (over 400mb) and it worked fine. so it cant be that there aint enough space on the hdd to burn discs...otherwise the cdr would have the same prob....

not legal in the uk. quite simple really. you're unlikely to get in trouble for it, but it's a criminal offense all the same.

If he can get the file onto his C: drive, the best thing to do would be to re-encode it.

PLenty of info around if you google it (try googling "dvd backup resource")
