    subtitles, that's how.

    subtitles are stored on DVD as an additional video stream, which is simply overlaid on top of the main feature. many DVDs have really crappy quality text for their subtitles - nasty blocky characters. I run subtitles on foreign stuff through some Optical Character Recognition software designed for the task to get a text format version of the subs, with timer info. I then spellcheck and proofread the output, and burn those into the rip output using smooth anti-aliased fonts, for FAR more readable text. let's see if I can get an example done.....

    Geexbox is good for HTPC's, but does run on the fly from a CD. it's a small image though, so perhaps you could fit it on a pen drive. I mainly posted this for other info, since it's not very well publicised.
