    How can I block these?

    I get about... 15-20 of these a day which is to say the least, annoying. All of my mail comes through a server which is already filtering out about 3/4 of my mail, but I can't seem to filter these ones. Here's a copy of the header:

    Code:
    Return-path: <alison@priest.com>
    Received: from 68.115.180.223 (unverified [68.115.180.223]) by smtp3.inetc.net
     (Rockliffe SMTPRA 5.3.11) with SMTP id <B0128614446@inetc134.inetc.net> for <**@*******>;
     Wed, 16 Jun 2004 23:37:30 +0100
    Message-ID: <B0128614446@inetc134.inetc.net>
    From: =?Windows-1251?B?wOTl6/wgwuXt9uXx6+Di7uLt?= <alison@priest.com>
    To: **@*******
    Subject: =?Windows-1251?B?IOLx8vDl9+AgwuD46PUg4+7x8uXp?=
    Date: Wed, 16 Jun 2004 20:33:55 +0000
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/related;
        type="multipart/alternative";
        boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0000_D51CAEA4.06A34F25"
    X-Priority: 3
    X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
    X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000
    X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000
    Any ideas? Is it safe to open one and have a look at the content? I'm using Norton AV which is fully up to date. Email client is Outlook XP (2002, v10).

    At the moment i dont have any ideas on how you could stop them (sorry), but i would recommend that you do not open them. They look far to dodgy. A 9kb email is quite large imo, most of mine are only 1-3k in size. So i wouldnt open them.

    or make a filter which sends all emails with funky (spanish/french) letters into the deleted items folder? (ie ones which contain 'Ê')

    Updated with the header.

    I've tried blocking mails with a subject that contains '=?Windows' because they all seem to have that. But no joy there.

    I'm thinking those funny characters are just Outlook's way of representing the data, and they're not actual characters. The mail server is probably seeing them differently

    My email server runs "SPAM Bouncer" which is i think a custom program written by my hosts. It is bleeding superb. So superb i was actually amazed.

    I took an email account that i was getting constant spamming on, 20 per day. Applied Medium filtering to it (there is also High and Low) and set the filtering to send all spam mesages to spamcatcher@ my email. All of a sudden the original account was devoid of spam, with my usual emails and newsletters from dabs komplett etc still getting through, and the spamcatcher@ account was full of the spams. Now that i had established that it works, i set the Spam Bouncer to just delete spams as they come in. I now have no spams.

    Amazing!

    I think server side spam catching is the way to go, and I recon its the duty of all ISP's to offer a product that deals with spam. If they dont, or the product is crap, then just move hosts.

    you've got the headers, report the headers to your ISP and they may black list the SMTP server, then the people who run the SMTP server will have to take action against the senders to get themselves unblacklisted.

    Try reporting the SMTP server to ORBS
    It is Inevitable.....

    I'm not 100% certain on this but I would think that you would be able to open the e-mail as long as you dont touch any attachemnts or accept any security warningss etc. If your getting 15-20 a day I dont see how it can get much worse for you anyway...

    Edit: If you can, forward one to one of my shell E-Mail accounts and I'll look at it, I have managed to virtualy eliminate spam from my inbox without the use of a filter...

    Send it to Cheese04@operamail.com

    I like the reporting idea, but it would be a lot of hassle because they all seem to have different origins.

    I will forward one to you Falcon when I get home, thanks

    I just opened one up to forward to you, and it turns out all the characters are from what looks like a Russian typeset. This does not help
