What P2P software does every one use?

I'm looking at setting up a download sever with several P2P programs on it. what i would like to know is what is best?

i have a spy ware removed version of Imesh, but i don't want to be installing Kazza etc which installs stuff like GAIN etc.

any one know of any good programs?

bear in mind that it's illegal to modify most of these clients, even for noble causes like removing spyware.

is kazaa lite still available? Like kazaa but without the spyware, etc. Also my fav is edonkey / overnet, get very god speeds with it and seems to be very stable. Also works fine with my adsl router, firewall etc.

Shareaza isn't bad, nor is Overnet, Bittorrent regularly puts them both in the shade though, I tend to use them for tv show catchup

Ooo wondered why i couldnt dload it any more, luckilly I asked if its available. Anyway kazaa seems to be great for music vids etc, especially dirty movies, if masterflash was here he can tell you more about that side than me. Edonkey is better for software demo's etc. I just tend to grab suff with the biggest availibility.

does bit torrent act like kazza ect where you do a search and just download it?

also if i were to install normall kazza (full of spy ware etc) would it spread to other systems on my home network?

Bit torrent doesnt no work quite the same as kazaa, its a little more fiddly, but it is worth it. Spyware dosent spread (i dont think) but it is evil and will drive you crazy.

well it'll be set up on a PC just left on downloading all day and night (got to put my P3 to some good use!) so it wont be used for much else.

I found Edonkey and Emule full of files but come to download just sat there and didn't bother downloading

Direct Connect i find a little pointless as it can't resume downloads if the user goes off line, so ur left with a incomplete file.

I use apollon - a Linux client for the giFT and Gnutella networks (and I believe others with plugins. giFT is definately open-source, so no spyware etc... from the name I would say that GNUtella is too.

Yeah, Shareaza is a BT client, and that's the bit I use the most, it does have it's own network and it also uses the edonkey network, but I can usually find what I want on BT quicker..

I think for me it's the ability to have everything in one place, and the ability to use the BT data to hunt on the other networks if the BT bit is going a bit slow, and the fact the client regularly updated

Bitornado is a good bittorrent client with good features. I switched to it after bittorrent 3.3 started hanging on me and givig me backchat and found this to be more configurable.
