Programmes to run on 2000 and XP

Is it possible to run programmes on both 2000 and XP without reinstalling them?

I'm using 2000 atm but I want to use XP. I used to use XP but for some reason it suddenly wouldn't go on the internet, so I had to to format my HD which is annoying. So I want to run 2000 and XP. 2000 as backup but I don't want to reinstall everything and have two copies of every software I use.

    he says:

Presumably, they're dual booting.. My experience is that some progs (word, partition magic) will work without reinstalling.. if you find the .exe & make a shortcut to it.. I got round the duplicate copies by having a seperate partition with the Applications on, tho for some progs, installation is required from the specific OS you want to use it from.. So, on install when it asks where you want the prog files to go, you browse & change the drive letter & OK it.. setup will always put some information on the drive with your OS. I have more than one drive, & the 1st partition on the seccond drive will always b "D" so adding partitions for more OSs keeps location of Applications simple..
