    Windows 7 Issue

    Hey Guys,

I’m hoping you can help me here. About a month ago I bought myself a new SSD and a copy of Windows 7 Upgrade to install on it. I installed the SSD in to my PC and then tried to install Windows Vista, unfortunately Windows Vista wouldn’t install (problem with my disk maybe… idk). In the end I decided to just use my Windows 7 upgrade disk to do a fresh install on the new SSD.

Now a month down the line I’m been prompted to activate my copy of Windows 7 and I just can’t seem to get it to work. I’ve tried the standard method of just inputting my product key which it won’t accept. I’ve spoken to a Microsoft advisor and after 20 minutes of them trying to help me I was told I must contact them via this number 0844 800 2400 so I hang up to then find it’s the same damn number that I had just dialled. I’ve tried the automated service (0800 018 8354) where you type the 9 sections in to your phone, again this did not work so I was put through to an advisor who had me read all the 9 sections out to them… For again guess what… it also did not work. They then asked me to go to the “Change product key” link on the windows activation wizard, to turn off my internet connection and then they will give me instructions on what to do next… I did as they requested and then I waited for 5 minutes with the usual “hello” “is anyone there?” but it looks like my advisor has either jumped from their office window or gone for lunch or something… but they were not answering me anymore. So now that’s almost an hour on the phone to Tech support at my cost (I don’t have a land line so had to call from my mobile) things would have been quicker but when you say to your advisor “8” and they reply “did you say zero” you know it’s going to be a long phone call… maybe support should be based in the UK.

So then I decided that the Microsoft phone support was just wasting my time and that maybe I should see if they have a live chat function or e-mail contact and this is where things got even worse… Microsoft wants me to pay £46 for support on their product because the product key won’t work. TBH I find this a joke no wonder there are so many people doing counterfeit copies of their OS if it’s this much hassle for a genuine buyer to just get things set up and working.

I’m not really sure what to do next, does anyone have any ideas?

Hmm, I'd be tempted to try and get it working through Vista-Upgrade method it was designed for. What was the problem you were having when installing Vista?

When trying to install from my Windows Vista disk it would only let me get so far through the stages and then an error would come up (can’t remember the name of it ). I put the error in to Google and it came back as a problem for either downloaded versions of Windows Vista or from versions where the install disk hadn't be written properly (or something to that effect) and some of the files needed were in fact missing so the install could not be completed. Before this I had never tried to install from my Windows Vista disk because it came ready installed when I got my computer built.
