I burned a VOB ages ago and now no longer have the DVD, as I gave it to a friend. It is about 4 gigs, what I've like to do is make the individual discs just a few hundred megs and into .avi or whatever
Thanks guys

I used to use a piece of software called VirtualDub, it's GPL. Basically allows you to cut off video or split it wherever you like, fiddle with soundtracks and whatever else, then compress the bit you want. All you need is an appropriate codec - I had a commercial copy of DivX at the time, but I presume XviD would work as well.
I've always used autogk. I set the file size to about 700mb for a program of film length and 350 mb for tv series ep. Quality has always been excellent, and it lets you queue up multiple files (should you so wish) to convert overnight if you wanted to.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
