    Windows 7 64Bit/32Bit

Hi all im starting my new build, but was going to wait for the new ivy bridge processors so was only buying what can be used in my current rig and my new build (ie case ram etc).

I was also looking at upgrading from xp, like i said its been awhile so dont hang me for it What limits whether windows 7 is 64bit or 32bit? is it the processor? or is it a user choice?

Cheers for your help in advance

No functional limits just performance; especially in games. I don't notice difference much myself but as youre buying a 64 bit cpu why not use 64-bit windows.

PS Microsoft win7 touchg mouse is 1/2 price at currys if upgrading OS

    Re: Windows 7 64Bit/32Bit

Currently running a pentium 4 with hyperthreading, so think that would struggle with a 64bit. Any ideas if i can buy win 7 pro, install it as 32bit then, when i get the new processer install it as 64bit? (as i believe its the same install cd). or i am i completly getting this wrong?

    Cheers for reply

Yeah you can do that, your P4 is only 32 bit anyway, so it wouldn't install.

Depends which model. Later ones supported 64bit.

Right you are, might as well install 64 then if you have enough RAM, like 2GB+ is alright for 64

Also there is no upgrade path from 32 bit>64 bit. You would need to do a clean install. The install media is 32 OR 64 bit, they're not both on one disk.

Yep. Two discs. OEM media is just one disc though.

Yep, 2 separate discs. If you buy OEM you get one or the other.
