So apparently 4chan was running around with this:

"think it's finally time we ditch Darwin for Windows Server 2008"

I don't know if its troll bate, but why the hell would anyone use Darwin, or even consider 2008 R2 for a simple website like 4chan.

It has no complex DB requirements.

I'd hazard a guess they stash everything in RAM.

Is this just troll bate, or is there a reason they aren't using a very simple BSD/linux build?

They probably use Macs. I notice some techies like to refer to the Mac OS as Darwin.

I said the same thing to a friend, albeit it without the technical reasoning, that a swap from Apple > MS plastered at the top of each board seemed like obvious troll bate.

I'd use 2k8 web server for simple sites, but then I've lived and breathed .net at work for the last 3 1/2 years and every time I try to do something in perl / php nowadays I spend about 3 times as long searching through documentation as I do coding, and start muttering about how much easier it'd be to do it all in .net

Honestly don't know why anyone would use a Mac for anything! Especially a server when Linux is available...
