Hi there again guys,
Now bear in mind I'm a complete noob at overclocking!
I've not long had my rig and only just downloaded and ran AMD vision engine control center.
CPU- Phenom II x4 960T Black Edition 3.0ghz
Mobo- Asus M5A 78L
GPU- HIS, ATI 6850
CPU cooler- Coolermaster 212 Evo
Now using the amd software I downloaded I've managed to use 'CPU Overdrive' to clock my phenom II 960T black edition to 3.4ghz with it's auto CPU overdrive function.
With the 'graphics overdrive' function I've upped the GPU clock settings to 825mhz (max is 850mhz). High performance memory clock setting is set to 1100mhz (max being 1200mhz).
It's also unlocked to 6 cores via the asus core unlocker.
I then decide today to install the USB 3.0drivers from the asus setup disc I had with the motherboard. I notice that there is also a piece of software available to install called AMD catalyst control, which seems to do the same thing as the AMD vision software. Am I right in assuming that I do not need both pieces of software? If so that's fine I'll just stay with the AMD vision and not bother bloating up my pc with stuff I dont need.
Also, (have patience with me! I'm a noob) I'm sure 3.4ghz is a pretty mild overclock for this cpu no? Is there anyway I could increase this? AMD Vision seems to state with auto testing that 3.4ghz is the limit but I've heard that these cpus can get 4.0ghz? As for the GPU, I'm not sure what the safe levels are to push it so I've tried to be mild with the tweaking.
Any tips or advice about the differences between AMD vision and AMD catalyst would be appreciated. Also any info or advice on overclocking or what software I should use to overclock would be much appreciated too.
All the best,
Richie
