Looking for a Web based File transfer portal software

My company has a server that we upload data to for our clients to retrieve and our clients upload data to it for us to retrieve. Since its FTP, some of our clients are denied access by their firewalls/security settings. We are looking to replace it hopefully with something that will be more user friendly and more flexible, ideally with some sort of HTTPS portal where they would enter a username and password and then be displayed a list of files and folders they have access to.

I've had a quick look and found leapfile.com, however we do not have $150 a month to spend.

Below is more or less what we need it to do.

-Support SFTP and HTTPS file uploads and downloads
    -Granular file permissions
-At top level, Users can only see folders they have permission to see
    -Granular administrative rights
-create accounts, reset passwords, create folders...
-Account Expiration (Optional but would be great)

Has anyone come across a software package that can provide this functionality, one off costs rather than monthly subscriptions would be best.

There would probably be no more than 5 concurrent users.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

P.S. This software would have to be compatible with Windows Server 2003/2008.

SFTP is going to be blocked by most corporate firewalls too.

If you have VMWare I can heartily recommend this (though it looks like it can be installed on bare metal, if needs be). If you're confident that the files transferred will be less than 2Gb then you're sorted for a one off license cost of $79 USD, with annual maintenance of $15 USD - this gets you 10 users. Maintenance isn't a requirement, but allows you to upgrade to newer versions. There's also a 5 user free trial - have a look and see if it meets your needs. Admin is all web-based, so can be farmed out to your servicedesk easily enough.

EDIT - that said I've been looking into something a little larger scale and will be doing some proper reading about VMware Project Octopus in the coming days.

Windows Server 2003 and 2008 have licenses for sharepoint - that can do files over HTTP/HTTPS with all of the authentication, expiration etc you ask for.
Cerberus FTP server does all of that - it uses AD for the accounts and can be an SFTP server.

Congratulations on assisting with the global elimination of that awful protocol, FTP.

Splash, thank you very much, that Secure Filetransfer Appliance is awesome, I have been testing it out, seems to perform exactly how I wanted it to, very good pricing too.

    Cheers all!

Re: Looking for a Web based File transfer portal software

Of course, if you've got Win servers that are accessible on external IPs (which you obviously have if they're FTPing in at the minute) it'd be relatively simple to set up a website in IIS / ASP.NET to do this for you - then you just need to register for an SSL certificate to keep the transfer secure, and you'll be in full control of the software. Of course, there'd be an initial set up cost to get the application written, but it shouldn't be that much as it's a fairly straightforward task (I wrote something to do this in perl many years ago, and it only took me a couple of days...)

Re: Looking for a Web based File transfer portal software

I'm sort of a lone guy in changing our current FTP system with a very small budget, its a very tiny part of my what my company does so I don't think I would be able to spend more than £200 on it.

I think my best bet is with the VMWare Secure File Transfer, I have several ESXi servers knocking about and price is spot on, only £60 for a certificate + $99 for the 10 user license, bargain.

    Cheers all.

Fair enough, I've been in that position before and it can be difficult.

Then again, maybe I should send you my card - my rates are *very* reasonable
