    RIP Alcohol 120%

    Alcohol 120% is now officially unsupported and it is now illegal to use it to circumvent any copy protection.
    www.alcohol-software.com tells the full story.
    Its quite a shame that they have been shut down and out smarted. Many people will have to turn to other imaging software, just like me.
    RIP Alcohol 120%

    Another fantastic program made illegal by greedy politicans paid off by stupid businessmen.

    When will they learn that any form of copy protection is beatable, will be beaten, and this process will not be stopped by this kind of stupid law.

    In fact, it won't make a dent, and you're likely to make more profit by not paying for copyright protection software and not bothering to sue individuals.
    Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

    Moved, because this has nothing to do with hardware, and everything to do with applications.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Dammit! Was just getting to grips with a demo version.

    But my question is... Alcohol 120 would not allow me to make up a backup copy of my DVD's. So where is the problem? It told copyright material and spat the disk out. (Unless I was devious and used a background program to overide protection)

    *edit* So it would not in itself allow me to circumvent copyright protection

    more to the point, the DMCA (the american law which has caused this) makes it illegal to circumvent encryption or protection - but basic "fair use" laws mean it is legal to copy your ownb stuff as backups. combining the laws, it is illegal to copy a copy-protected application BADLY - since you would require an illegal crack; copying it 1:1 with no crack required (what blindwrite, alcohol, clonecd do) is legit.

    then again, who write the laws?

    Ha. I've yet to find anything I can't rip with transcode/mencoder or one of their numerous front-ends.
    All effort is useless

    Oh FFS

    Why is it that the people who pass these laws have NO CLUE about WTF they are doing ?
