    Avast = free.

    Avira = free.

    Personally, right now (and things change), I prefer Avast.

    Re: Recommended Anti-virus

    I recently wrote a very brief blog post about free antivirus software. It mentions the three big ones (imo): Microsoft Security Essentials, avast! and AVG. They're all worth a punt.

    Re: Recommended Anti-virus

    I stopped using AVG years ago when it started missing loads of stuff. NOD32 for me now but if someone was looking for free I would be +1 for MSE.

    Re: Recommended Anti-virus

    For free then MSE has it in the bag, for paid software then NOD32 is the best. I managed to grab nod32 for 6months free (offer they did) but when it runs out i will buy it off Amazon for £15.

    Re: Recommended Anti-virus

    It also has to be said, this is a bit like asking what the best beer is? It depends on your taste. No single product is (IMHO) perfect, and they charge over time (and sometimes short amounts of it) anyway.

    It is perfectly possible to put together a competent and comprehensive security system entirely at no charge. Like :-

    - Comodo firewall
    - Avast AV
    - MBAM and/or SAS malware

    But there are other good products too, and picking the best is, at any given point in time, nearly impossible.

    With just about any blend of the products mentioned in this thread, you should be about as well-protected as is possible .... and perfection isn't possible.
