Electronic Arts is auto-adding EA titles that were purchased from Steam to a user’s EA Origin account. According to what we have been able to uncover, a number of Origin account holders have seen Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect showing up in Origin as games that they own
i can personally confirm this - started up origin today to find medal of honor was on it - and i bought that in the steam sale.
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
Oh....that potentially stinks.
Firstly.....how is it doing it? my privacy concerns are currently going into over-drive!
Secondly.....Does it remove the old title from Steam?
Thirdly.....Does it double-up on disk space or just add the game from the steam location?
Now, I wonder if it will add my retail (non-Steam, non-Origin activated) Dead Space 1 on it's own....hmmm
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
no , its asking me to redown MoH in origin and i use different email adresses for both steam and origin , and no its still on steam
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
Wow......I can see them getting a major outcry over this......there is already a contingent of users who either hate Origin or plain refuse to use it......and then they start nosing around your HDD.....
Double-installs.......you could take advantage of it. Create a new Origin account and then let it dupe your EA steam games onto it.....sell origin account and profit.
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
But if you already had it on Steam why would you download it again anyway through Origin - EA aren't forcing it onto your PC as well.
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
Luckily, EA have stated that it isn't snooping around your HD, but using the e-mail address associated with your Origin account, and that of the e-mail you may have registered a game with.
Linky.
Whether it can be believed or not is another matter....
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
except that i never registered MOH in the first place.....
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
I can see EA using this as an exit strategy for steam.

I was afraid of that.....but I would like to think that (at least in the UK) our consumer rights may stop them forcing us from one platform to another......

Unfortunately all legislation is a bit thin on digital economics. EA could easily argue that since they're providing a migration path free of charge, then consumers aren't being disadvantaged/locked out.
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
ofc - if they still harvest information if origin is removed then its a breach of the data protection act
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
I know no-ones posted on here for a month, but I thought I'd add that Origin added my Dead Space 2 from steam to it's library, and marked it as installed. Trying to launch Dead Space 2 runs it in steam. It's a pretty stupid to imo and hopefully they'll adjust it. Other than that, I'm glad that they add it to my Origin library too.
Re: Origin auto-adding Steam-purchased EA titles
I don't think it is anything to be worried about. When EA and Steam fell out I took all of my EA activation codes and added them to Origin and now a number of my EA games are registered to my Origins Account, but I haven't installed them. I think this is just making it easier for people who want to move games from Steam or other services to Origin, if such a person exists.
