    Permissions and unlocking them

I am getting increasingly fed up of being denied the ability to delete stuff on my PC, by these mysterious permissions. I have a second hard drive in my computer with an old boot setup on it. I am trying to manually delete it, but it isn't letting me due to permissions

I have tried everything I can think of to bypass them but it still wont let me. I am sure i remember seeing software that could sort this sort of thing out.

    Can anyone comment? Cheers guys

    Re: Permissions and unlocking them

    Which OS?

    If Windows:

If you right click on a file/folder, go to Security (or some variant thereof), click edit, then add. In that box type in 'Administrators' and click ok. Then that will add Administrators to the permissions, apply 'full control' to the administrators - and you should be able to do with the files as you please

For the above to work you do have to have enabled advanced file sharing

You need to take ownership at the root of the old install: the account you use on your machine may well have admin priovileges, but until you own that old install it's never going to work.

    Re: Permissions and unlocking them

I used to have this problem occasionally so I added Take Ownership to the right click menu in Win 7. How to Geeks have a way of doing it.

Tbh I haven't really had to use it since but hey its there. It makes life that bit easier.
