Correct placement of my PS title in browser

Ive started a new website im fairly new to it. Heres my problem:

I created a banner title or what ever their called for the site in PS (the same type of title these forums have above the usercp and register links), ive inserted it into the home page, but u can see my background color on each side of the title. How do i eradicate this problem? Also ive noticed on this site the banner stretches right across the screen no matter what resolution im in (to gaps on either side), and in very low resolutions ive noticed that no scroll bar appears at the bottom of the screen, how is this done because thats what i want mine to be like. thanks for ne replies

PS. another question how do u make the backround that these forums have in photoshop (the grid lines) if u dont understand what im onabout just say

You got any screen shots mate? It's hard to tell without seeing it...

Regarding that banner on overclock, it looks like the top table cell that spans the entire top of the page has a BGCOLOR of light blue...

Is your site laid out in tables? You might want to google on table cell and BGCOLOR

If you want to see how a site performs a trick, why not just look at the site's HTML?
