    Question What Instead Of Winamp?

Been using Winamp for years...just got 'my' PC up and running again after a year in pieces and was wondering if there was anything else i should consider instead of Winamp?

Just want it purely for mp3 playback...happy enough to play vids through WMP...

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

I just use WMP for mp3s as well, it's well integrated with the win7 library system, searching for music is simple, gets out of the way when minimised.. Not sure what is is needed really.

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

foobar seems to be the main alternative to winamp. like winamp it's a mainly music based program, but unlike winamp it has a lot of options for tagging and file conversion

personally i've stuck with winamp since about the 90s. it plays everything, it's small and lets you have a big file list that you can change on the fly. media player classic HC is my choice for video, again been using that for years. it's simple and plays everything. VLC is also good, but i prefer the way the scan bar appears and dissapears on MPC

media monkey is a good itunes alternative. again good for tagging and re-encoding

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

As all of my music is on a NAS that supports AirPlay choice is rather simple - iTunes.

Gotta love playing music to set of speakers in the kitchen directly from the NAS and using iDevice as a remote while cooking ^^

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

foobar without a shadow of a doubt (link), I used to be a fan of winamp but went with foobar and I've not looked back since, it's a bit more fiddly to get the layout right and you have to get the MP3 info yourself if you want it right but it's a fantastic player.

I'd recommend MusicBrainz Picard (link) for getting info for MP3's if you need that functionality

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

i use AIMP 2/3, solid stuff really... if you're just looking for a music player then it is pretty much the only thing you need . Uses little system resources, hotkeys programmable, good search, quick startup etc, multiple playlists and all other random stuff .

Will give foobar a try though as everyone keeps recommending it

As this thread is over 6 months old, the problem has probably been solved, but an explanation WHY you would recommend foobar would have been helpful!

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

Lol - I have often wondered what alternative to winamp for no other reason than I have been using it for years - I prefer keeping my music separate from other media formats. But never seem to find anything that just works for me like winamp - i guess it is habit but i hope it is still up there with other users.

Video players have come and go for me - wmp, bsplayer, media player classic, vlc

    Re: What Instead Of Winamp?

You can use VLC media player instead of Winamp media player. Personally i use this media player the sound quality of this player is so good.

    foobar FTW

simple and very very (very) light, not eating much memory
and it's just about music! not the exterior XD

and for bonus: it can use for ripping music from cd to flac or mp3 or the other music files
