    Extracting patches/updates out of windows

My PC is becoming noticably slower to boot (its not bad but noticable and has not been reinstalled for over a year). I suppose it is coming up to time for a spring clean OR if i can scrounge enough pennies together; get an SSD.

I was wondering whether you can extract patches and updates out of a current install of windows so you don't have to update over the interwebz. I have a 10gb monthly allowance and was thinking this would help rather than turning my computer on after midnight and scheduling restarts throughout the night.

    Fanks in advance.

Can you get broadband anywhere else? Most Windows updates come in network install packages for IT professionals, so you could download them all to a pen drive in work / uni / college / a mate's house? Otherwise I think you might be out of luck I'm afraid.

What on earth ISP are you stuck on for only 10GB download?

Most people I know are on 10gb limits too. Too old for college and as a beard sporter/dirty jacket wearer I'm wary of approaching schools. I'll see what I can do at work.

We normally get to the end each month or they cap us a few days before the next starts. Downloads are free after midnight until 6or 8ish. Its about 6.50 a month so I'm not complaining (plusnet).

Ah, the good old cheap-as-chips plusnet, I did wonder. It's only a fiver extra for 60GB limit, you know

I guess if you're light users it's not such a problem, unless you get hit by a raft of Windows updates - but then if you leave your computers on all the time you can schedule those to run overnight. Might be the best / easiest solution I'm afraid...

Re: Extracting patches/updates out of windows

I used to be on that 10GB a month cap with Plusnet (did all my dling between midnight and 8am, but decided to go the extra fiver a month for the 60GB cap, glad I did, good deal.

You may be able to dload the updates at your local library, if they have pcs, most do but you have to book them an hour at a time (at least at mine).
