Question Snap to - won't turn off (cursor issue)

If you open a dialog box (eg, try and quit MyIE2), it asks you a question "Do you really want to quit?" or similar.

Now, there is a setting in mouse options to "Snap To" the default option. It's a registry setting. But, even if I turn it off/on/delete the registry key completely, I'm snapping to the default option in dialog boxes.

Had a quick look in google, can't find anything (apart from the feature existing)...how in hell's name can I turn it off? I don't want my mouse cursor moving unless I move it!

    Any ideas...?

    Thanks!
    Well Hello!

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options

    Half way down snap too.

My bad just seen that you tried that.

    To make amends :

Control the Mouse "Snap To" Feature (All Windows)
When enabled, this setting causes the mouse pointer to snap-to the default button of the active application window.

This tweak can be easily applied using WinGuides Tweak Manager.
    Download a free trial now!

Open your registry and find or create the key below.
Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called "SnapToDefaultButton" and set it according to the value data below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

    (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
    SnapToDefaultButton REG_SZ "1"

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse

    Registry Settings
    User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
    Value Name: SnapToDefaultButton
    Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
    Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.

out of interest, if you unplug the usb mouse and fiddle around with the nipple (making sure snap-to is disabled) does it still do it?

Devilbod: I looked at that article, hence me looking at the registry (mentioned in my original post)...thanks, though.

Raz, yes, it does...bah humbug. Rebooting in order...feels like a proper system glitch though.

*edit* Just going to try the proper tosh mouse driver, and maybe the kensington one, maybe that'll override the defaults...8Mb for a poxy mouse driver my arse!!

It may be at mouse software-level that this is happening. I had a mouse once that came with software that allowed you to do this (As well as having some other equally annoying "features"). Perhaps uninstall its associated software (Assuming it has any)?

Weird, tried last night without the usb mouse (after a reboot) and it's fine...must be the mouse, and XP installing some software for it? Odd, and horribly disconcerting! I won't be getting a kensington mouse, that's for sure!
    Well Hello!
