    Music Library Software

I'm looking for a music library organiser (like WMP and iTunes etc) but with an ability to show which playlists a song is a part of. For example if a certain song is part of playlist1 and playlist3 then I'd like to see that somewhere beside the song, tucked away along with Genre and Year for example. I'm also looking for something with a powerful search function, such as finding a song common to multiple playlists or finding an artist in multiple playlists. Do such things exist?

On a more general note, what are the best music organiser software you've used? I'm finding it a real chore now to organise my growing collection of music. I like to put all of my music (every single song) into a playlist just so I get to listen to everything and not leave some good songs unlistened to for years . I used to keep an Excel spreadsheet for all my playlists for faster searching but as they have grown to hundreds of songs each it's become a pain to make any changes and identify duplicates as well as identifying missing songs (and there are a lot of them I haven't got round to listening to!). I'd really like to be able to do all this within a music manager itself and have it all organised there instead of going back and forth. Windows Media Player is becoming a bit too basic for my needs now...

    Re: Music Library Software

I upgraded to MediaMonkey a while ago because WMP wasn't up to the task any more, but I don't think it's really going to meet any of your requirements.

Having said that, there really aren't that many options out there if you're using Windows... MediaMonkey, Foobar, WinAmp, etc. You might as well just grab the top 5 and give them a go, as I'm not sure any of them will do.

    Re: Music Library Software

MediaMonkey/Winamp are very similar (mediamonkey is better for some plugins (mpp files), metadata retrieval IMO using Amazon stores, Winamp has wireless sync for android, both IIRC are built on the same platform)

Mediamonkey is better to me for search, especially things like duplicate tracks, missing metadata etc.

Thanks guys for the responses. I'll give MediaMonkey a go. If it doesn't work out then I may have to go back to excel, or even start a database of all my music and use GIS to sort and manage them lol (which would take a lot of effort but that's exactly the sort of thing I want...) If only they made a GIS type program that could play music files!

    Re: Music Library Software

Tag and Rename ftw here, used it for several years and it does everything my 9,000 tracks ask of it.
    Cheers, David

Tag and rename is awesome but seriously...be damn careful with it.

Had a friend almost in tears after T&R renamed his entire music collection wrongly!

    Re: Music Library Software

I have backups so I should be OK, I'm not looking to rename anything, I just want to organise my files better.
