    SVCD Playback.

I've never really used VCD's or SVCD's in the past, but a friend has lent me a couple but I seem to be having trouble watching them. When I insert in the disc in to my stand alone player it just give the "No Disc" message and even though I have downloaded the SVCD codec I can't seem to play them on my computer either. They just stick at the start where it says opening media.

    Any ideas?

I dont think you need the SVCD codec anyway. Its just plain mpg. Some DVD players can't play VCD or SVCD. Such as the XBOX, that's why it won't play in your DVD player.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

It won't play in my NAD T550 which says on the front DVD/VideoCD play back, but maybe it's because it's a SVCD instead or a normal VCD. But it should play in my Yamada 6600, that's supposed to play everything under the sun :/

Your Yamada shold play it fine but you are probably right about your other stand alone. A lot of DVD players cant handle SVCD but can do VCD fine.

Try this trick to see if you can persuade your DVD player to play a SVCD.

My Sony will play a hacked SVCD - even though it officially only plays DVD/VideoCD

To play a SVCD on a PC, you will need an MPEG-2 (DVD) codec installed. If you have a DVD player installed, then that should be enough, otherwise you'll need one.
