Aero stops and comes back after a few minutes.

Just wondering if anyone can offer some confirmation on this annoying occurrence....

I just done a fresh install and I have noticed the dropping of transparencies and it coming back again after a few minutes.
It annoyed the hell out of me in the past and I worked out that it was some scan in the back ground, but can't remember exactly what I did to stop it.

I have just disabled the WinSAT scheduled task, as I believe this is the pesky critter that frustrates me.

Does anyone know what I am going on about? Am I correct in what I'm doing to stop it?

It happened at 00:00, didn't it?

Just happened to me, and its a known issue AFAIK. OTOH, tonight was the first time its happened for a good while.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Aero stops and comes back after a few minutes.

It could well have been, although the winSAT task said 01:00 on Sunday.
I know that I did something to stop it previously, so my money is currently on WinSAT
I'm thinking it was something edited in the registry, but I guess i'll find out in due course

Re: Aero stops and comes back after a few minutes.

At a rough guess, some background task you are running reports that it doesn't support Aero (despite being a background task anyway) and as such Windows immediately disables Aero (usually it will tell you that it's doing this through an annoying pop-up bubble from the task bar notification area). It might be worth seeing if you can persuade whatever's causing it to run as a service instead?

I've got a new laptop at work that has several Dell utilities pre-installed, and occasionally they throw up an empty, opaque window in the top left corner of my screen despite the fact that they're meant to be background tasks...
