    Video conversion software... mediaEspresso useless?

Ive had Cyberlinks Media Espresso for a few months now and im still baffled at its usefulness (i managed to get it on offer for free woo).

Our TV downstairs is still an old 32" Sony CRT and our DVD player is a Sony SR150 which is just a generic one (last one died last year), we are planning on moving house end of this year and already plan for buying a new HD tv and a bluray player is already bought (ive nabbed it for my room until we move ). I have found that all my videos work fine on the bluray drive but most things refuse to playback on the DVD player, i had hoped that MediaEspresso would fix that for me, ive tried many format and resolutions but none seem to work... some have just audio or look terrible (WORSE than the original file yet at 5x larger!!!!).

Media Espressos format support seems terrible, it doesnt have MPEG4 and i know the dvd player doesnt support DivX but it supports Xvid (there is no options in Mediaespresso, can only use dvix!). Am i being stupid or something? There is no profiles for SD TVs only for mobiles youtube upload etc, tried making new profiles but no results seem to work, was wondering if anyone has a solution to get video formats working on old tvs/dvd players?.

Ideally i would like to actually view my blurays downstairs (well to let my parents actually watch my collection!), can rip the blurays to my HDD no problem but converting it to a SD format seems impossible .

Any helps appreciated, this small issue is driving me mad!.

I haven't used the software you're on about but you could take a look at freemake. It's free and should convert blu ray easy enough, even uses cuda to speed some parts up.

Take a look around the support section and the how to sections to get tips on how to adjust things.

My recommendation would be Handbrake if you're just looking to convert between video formats (and don't need to rip DVDs or whatever). It's open source, free, actively developed and pretty fast if you've got a half-decent machine.

I've used SUPER and mediacoder. I prefer mediacoder personally. It's also free.

Re: Video conversion software... mediaEspresso useless?

Thanks for the comments! Ive tried handbrake many times its ok BUT it doesnt have any format/container that my dvd player supports making it rather useless for this task .

I will give the others mentioned here a try hopefully they can do the job!.
