I have recently gone ahead and done a total system upgrade and decided it might be worth trying some operating systems. After the upgrade I had a 60gb SSD left over from my old setup which I was using for nothing more than running a few games off so decided I would use it for something more useful, I installed Windows 8 simple enough except the installation was corrupted by the addition of Umbuntu onto the same SSD. So I re-allocated the partitions and was left with 2 18gb partitions and 20gb unallocated. Windows 8 installed onto the first 18gb no problem I then proceeded to install Umbuntu onto the unallocated space and all goes smoothly Windows still runs a treat, so I push my luck and install Windows 98 on the other 18gb partition that didn't work I'm not really going to go into that any further basically it just blue screens straight away. My problem however is one I wasn't expecting, I reconnected my 2 data drives and my Windows 7 / XP dual boot drive, I just choose the boot device on startup if I want to use Win 8 or Umbuntu otherwise Win7 will load automatically but with these drives connected I was expecting problems with Umbuntu being able to access the drives (not really done much with Linux since Mandrake 6.0) however all my drives showed up no problem so I thought I was sorted until I loaded Windows 8. It cannot find any drive on the system other than the boot media and the USB stick I used for the original install, any other USB memory stick I use remains undetected and it cannot see my External HDD yet any non storage device I plug in via USB is detected and installed instantly. I have tried in both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports and I have both used default Windows drivers and the Asus provided drivers, it doesn't even make the device found sound?? if anyone has any ideas would love to hear them.
