AMD Athlon upgrade from Windows Update

I have one driver that Windows Update reckons needs installing on my machine (Which has an XP2500+ CPU) - an AMD Processor Update. Whenever I try and install it, the installation fails. Anyone know whta is gong on, or if there is a fix?

98 SE neeeded an Athlon update cos os a USB driver error on AMD chips over 350 speed.
Without it, USB didn't work (dont ask me why...dunno) and AGP was dead too.
thats from my memory ...quite proud of that!

XP didnt need it tho

Im pretty sure Zak is right on the money there - i cant recall seeing anything anywhere for xp needing that update.

that always used to come up on my computer, and always failed! don't worry about it!

I have XP Pro and it advised me to get the update.

Installed it with no issues at all tho...

i have had this pop up from time to time with at least 10 diffirent cpu's...

Think you will find that was win95 that had that prob.

The update on the site installs fine here and this is with a 2500 XP-M
