Question Limit to a window 7 image !

I'm planning getting a new motherboard so i would need to re-install windows. What i am asking is can i make an image about 135gig in size to re-install or would it be best just to save what ever i need and do a fresh install ?
i got BF3 and Eve Online as well as other games but don't really fancy installing them again !
I feel it might be best for a new install but would like some feedback on this issue

    Many thanks matey's !

you cant reinstall an image in that sense, it's often best to fresh install so everything's fresh and bug free or you could just pop the hard drive into the new rig and see if it boots and installs the drivers.

Well the old board is a Gigabyte DDR2 and the new one is also a Gigabyte but DDR3 !
So it might be worth a try and see if it can boot ?

i have found in the past with windows 7, so long as the hard drives still set to IDE or AHCI it has a good chance booting to desktop without a bluescreen.

Go into computer,c,windows, system 32 and search for sysprep. Run the exe program for out of the box expirence and tick genralize. Only do this just before you are changing the motherboard and what it does is wipe out all the system drivers so when you install the new motherboard, your windows install detects the new hardware like a fresh install does and loads generic drivers as it would had you wiped the whole thing. All personal files and software is not touched, just drivers.

The whole thing takes about 5-10 mins and is built into windows 7

I'm pretty sure that Acronis TI with Plus Pack can re-install an image onto dis similar hardware too.

Re: Limit to a window 7 image !

Do your games not have a save game folder? You may not have the same issue but I tried something similar with Acronis and when I did I was reinstalling onto exactly the same hardware. Reason was I thought I could put the same settings and drivers across to ten PC's that were all the same spec. All seemed to be ok but in my case there was in insolvable problem around windows activation. long and short of it was that windows wouldn't activate and no amount of removing/special tools would get around it.
Still, worst case scenario you can't access your games and you have to do a clean install anyway so if you have the time why not.
