    no dvd drive in windows 8

    i've been running windows 8 for just over a week and have just noticed my sata dvd drive is not there. Its seen in the bios but not in my computer. All drivers are there and a usb dvd drive shows up fine but just not the internal sata drive???? Any ideas

    Well, they have done away with dvd codecs. But are you able to play dvd's as in movies and data dvd's?

    Have you checked the data and power cables to the drive to ensure they haven't been knocked loose? (check at motherboard end too)

    Yeah checked cables its just really strange as there was no probs on 7 and ya would think a dvd drive wouldnt give any hassel even with a unfinished OS

    Does the motherboard have more than 4 SATA ports? If the motherboard bios is set to legacy/IDE mode Windows will only use the first 4ports and ignore anything plugged into the others.
