Question ftp software? what's best? can you save queues?

i was wondering what the best ftp software is, both in the free and paid categories. also can you save a queue to resume, so if you need to or want to turn off the pc, when you turn it back on and load the ftp software it will resume what it was uploading/downloading? also is there one that will automatically save the queue so if your machine crashes/freezes or there is a power cut, you don't lose anything?

i'd prefer free software if possible, unless the paid stuff is notably superior in function etc

    cheers

Re: ftp software? what's best? can you save queues?

Going back to my warez days FTPRush was the de facto tool.
Supports queues scripts etc. also yes if you get a power outage your queues will be fine

Not free but definitely worth it, hell even though I was a super-hardcore-I'm-so-cool-pirate I parted with money for it, it was that good

I'm going back about 5 years but it was pretty much perfection so I doubt anything has usurped it.

    Cyberduck is good.

General case though, FTP is an inherently broken protocol

Filezilla is the best tool I've used. Still don't like FTP much though.

Re: ftp software? what's best? can you save queues?

filezilla is what i was using and i found you can save queues. i've not tried it yet though. the firefox plugin is quite handy too, to move the odd file. it's handy if you have a big queue in your ftp software and want to jump the queue easily and grab or upload something else in the middle of a big transfer

Re: ftp software? what's best? can you save queues?

Like others I have used Filezilla for a number of years and found it very satisfactory. Could not find any means of saving queues other than putting upload data into a single folder. If you get a crash and have to reload it always asked if you wanted to overwrite.

For years I've used FlashFXP and never needed to look elsewhere.

Re: ftp software? what's best? can you save queues?

I've used Filezilla for years and never had any issues with it. Really though, if you can you should look at moving to SFTP or FTPS. The latter is FTP over an SSL tunnel (or something to that effect) whereas the former is file transfer over SSH, which is also inherently fairly secure. FTP should have died years ago, I'm not really sure why it's still going.
