    Kdat - KDE2

    Kdat - http://sunsite.dk/qweb/kdat/

    We are running Redhat Advanced server 2.1 which runs KDE2. We'd like to install a gui based app for dat backups.

    It says the latest version of Kdat was finished in Oct 98 and to use this binary with RedHat 5.1, Qt 1.33, and KDE 1.0. Our system exceeds all requirements, but I am weary of installing something this old. If our system is too new for it to work, will it just fail to install?

    Cheers

    It might have trouble with some libraries as they'll be way newer than it expects. Still... only one way to find out I guess.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    that's true, it shouldn't cock up anything that already exists on the system though, should it?

    http://apps.kde.org has the latest version of Kdat.

    I have kdat working in kde 3.3 and QT3.X so no problems where.

    i suspect a version from debian woody will work on kde2, since that's what it ships with. try snapshot.debian.net, use ar to extract

    a quick note - if your using kdat some later versions have the opition to let kdat create the the indexes on tape, if you allow this, then try to recover without kdat tar/mt/cpio won't be able to read the indexes.

    Just a little note, so be careful.
