xp workgroup problems

im haven probs with my sharing over Lan

if i go to system properties

my network ID is greyd out and i cant change workgroup
everything

when i go into my network places and click on view work group computers
nothing happens

i seem to be locked out of anything to do with workgroup

and im logged in as admin

also get this when i try to look for computers on the network

But u ARE connected to the LAN allowing inernet con sharing etc ?

just not samba file sharing through work groups...
I gave up on this ages ago.. just run a free and secure ftp server... and create an account for your LAN buddies... its not that much of an arse

had this on a client PC, it was because the "Networking" and "Server" service were not started!
