writertype writes "PC Magazine reports that Microsoft has released Windows XP SP2 to PC OEMs after a two-day delay. A package of stories, complete with an exploration of the new update, is here. The best way for users to get the update, according to Microsoft, is to have Windows Update turned on; a CD version will be made available." Reader Critical_ writes "With all the news of SP2 being delayed, it seems like Microsoft may have pulled a rabbit out of its hat by releasing RTM on its WindowsBeta site. Neowin has a screenshot of the download page and MSFN has the release information. The final build is 2180. For those who can't download it for whatever reason, Microsoft is giving away free CDs here. Happy installing."

cheers for the heads-up guys. ill wait till the 10th as i run NIS/AV.

So how's everyone getting on with it so far? I like the new Security Centre, although I'd like to turn off the warning icon that says I don't have AV software installed, or the firewall turned on.
Apart from that, it seems fine to me. I needed a updated version of Nero (the latest works fine) but it warned me about that as I tried to run it for the first time, post-SP2.

I'm still running the last RC, but it seems okay so far :)
-
I'm running a beta (kept up to date) so it's no real hype for me. I'd like to see it downloaded to help secure a lot of PC's out there...
Other than that it's nothing special. I'm really annoyed at them moving the device manager button... I always click that!
-
Hehe you'll be bringing up the windows update page instead for a while until it click ;)
-
I'll be bringing it up for a while until it works... the site has slowed right down.
-
Anyone got a link to a SP2 uxtheme.dll << thats yhe one thing bugging me atm. Dead themes :(
-
Make sure you backup your data before you install it, some people have reported Windows not booting after updating.
-
-
so apart from nero and that theme dll file are there any other programs that won't work? or need a patch?
-
when is the proper release day?
-
It should be sometime this week by the looks, maybe even later today. I'm sure we'll know soon enough.
