Anyone know of any software that will do the job of windowsupdate.com ?
Something that doesn't need to connect to the internet would be perfect but not a necessity.

I don't know of any software to do that no. It certainly wouldn't work for new updates.. There is a way to get installers for the patches etc from a system that has installed them already. Just put all the installers on a cd and away you go.
I am not sure about this at all so apologies if that is wrong !
What's the environment? If it's a network with one or more Win2K or better servers, you can use Software Update Services - it's basically a free app provided by MS that loads on a server and essentially provides Windows Update services to a local are network. You can force client PCs (2K or better) to check with that rather than Windows Update via a Group Policy, and you only have to have the server synch with Windows Update to download the patches once. Is that anything like what you're looking for?Originally Posted by Atomic
It basically only provides the Critical updates, but if all you're doing is patching for vulnerabilities, that might do you.
SUS looks ok, I was looking for something I could sling on a CD and use to update the computers without having to connect them to the network really.
Theres nothing to stop you downloading the updates from the windows update catalogue, then burning them to CD with perhaps a batchfile to install them.
I think there is some software called autopatcher , but I've not played with it.

Oh, liking the look of AutoPatcher cheers
Yep - If it's a per machine install then there is nothing better than www.autopatcher.com.
Used it MANY times and it saves HOURS when building PC's. Also updates DX9, WMP, Java etc to save installing all the bits separately.
Do remember to check EVERY option before installing as some of the default ones I don't like. EG - Adding "Switch User" to the right click menu.
