    Questions about Acronis True Image

I want to clone my boot drive and had heard that Acronis True Image was the best package on the market to do this. I think I should do this as my boot drive has started making intermittent clicking noises, but I have never uesd Acronis before now so I wanted to ask about it first.

My plan is to run a second HDD and clone from my boot drive to the second drive, then remove my boot drive and replace it with dolly the cloned drive. How easy is it to do that with True Image?

It is very easy to do, Ebuyer are currently giving away Acronis TI with every HDD or SSD you buy.

Re: Questions about Acronis True Image

I think I might have an unused copy in my loft, I was given it by an Acronis rep during a trade show, but it is the 2010 version (I've had it 2 year and not broken the seal on the box!).

But is it as simple as just connecting the second drive and then hitting the clone button?

Would I be better off upgrading to the 2012 version?

2010 should be fine, Acronis is the only one I use and it's fantatsic. You could check the differences in your version and the current one, or you could trial the new one to clone your drive

It is a quality product indeed. I've used it for years & never had an issue.

Re: Questions about Acronis True Image

The only problem I had was it caused a problem with some USB flash devices not being able to work correctly but, Now I run it only from CD and do not install it on the PC.

Re: Questions about Acronis True Image

Acronis can do more than cloning, it has other tools like backup, restore or disk wiping.

If you just want a good simple solution to clone one drive to another then I recommend Easus Partition Master
    http://www.partition-tool.com/.

It's free and works very well. I've used it to clone drives many times without problem.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I struggled with Acronis at first and then the drive became too difficult to use, it would intermittently not show up or boot on some attempts so I thought I might as well just re-install onto a new drive, and then I thought that as I was planning on an upgrade in the not too distant future then I might as well do that so I got a new mobo and CPU and then installed my Windows.

Re: Questions about Acronis True Image

I have used Acronis True Image 2010 - and it works really well, I have also read about it being one of the best. Just for future proof though I am not sure whether 2010 works well with windows 8 maybe someone can confirm

The latest version will work or be made to work with for sure but, If you own an earlier version you can still boot it from the recovery disk and use it to back-up and recover that way.

Re: Questions about Acronis True Image

The reason I mentioned it was I had a windows 7 tablet and created a disk backup from it about ~ 8gb - I then wiped and installed windows8 clean on to it - updated a couple of things and then backed up with ATImage 2010 it only created a image of about 4gb which I thought was wierd. Anyway thanks for the info

If you had windows 7 on it for a while it may have created lots of extra files for various things. A fresh install of an OS is usually always smaller.
