For me win 7 is perfect and couldnt ask for a better os. Win 8 seems nice for tablets but not for desktop users anymore i mean sure u can kinda switch out of metro but why should ppl have to. Also start button, lol i need my start button![]()

I used to be a major skeptic of windows 7 (used XP for far too long) but it blew me away and it'd be hard for me to move to windows 8. I still remain to be convinced myself, depends how other people end up reviewing it when it comes out.
For me, an operating system is less important than the programs running on it. Windows 8 looks like a mainly cosmetic change, so is unlikely to interest me.
There seems to be a pattern with Windows OS's:
Windows 95 - good
Windows 98 - bad
Windows 98se - good
Windows ME - bad
Windows XP - good
Windows Vista - bad
Windows 7 - good
Windows 8 - ???
I think I'll hold out for Windows 9 unless I'm forced to change for compatibility reasons.

I tried the open beta or release candidate (whichever it was) a couple of months ago and I couldn't get on with it at all. It just felt like a mobile OS with a button put on as an afterthought to switch to a more traditional desktop view, albeit still without a Start button. I will be sticking firmly with Windows 7.
I've been using it since the developer preview as my main OS, and when I first used it I hated it, however it has grown on me. I quite like the new functionality now and going back to Windows 7 is now a step backward. I really like the improved dual monitor support, faster boot times, lower overhead and to be honest, the lack of a start menu really isn't a big deal.
Im still not convinced about win 8. I think i will wait for windows 9 which hopefully would be more suited for desktop ppl and not mobiles or touch screens. Now if pcs had touch screens for the mainstream then maybe the idea of metro would have been alot better but alas they arnt.
I bet there great for tablets tho.
I will be curious to know what win 8 will be like when sp1 comes out or if that doesnt change much then sp2 if it happens as generally windows is crap untill a sp comes out which fixes and enhances stuff that was crap at launch.
SPs rarely change features of the graphical appearance, the most significant upgrade I can think of added in an SP was exFAT.
I think MS have really made a mistake with Win 8 and with any luck they will revert to Windows 7 style with Windows 9.
While the boot time maybe quicker it really is geared more toward the 'cool technology' crowd.
Interests: kicking the ass of technical problems and gaming.
If its like my tablet, I think its going to annoy the heck out me, with my tablet I turn my wifi off as it kills the battery so much when not in use, so when I turn it on, maybe just settle an argument in where I seen an actor before, it just does what it wants to do and not me. i.e try to connect to the internet and it wants to shove all my emails in my face, then goes crazy as the apps want updating, then all the facebook crap, after all the rubbish shoved in my face Iv'e forgotten what I was looking for. If it looks like this i'm staying with faithful 7.

Is that your name in the picture??
I cannot agree with MS's strategy in Win8. It looks so awful to me with its metro interface on my desktop. I do not think I will ever want to use my desktop as a tablet. So why would I need Win8? MS wanted to make it look simple but it turns out to be cheap look. I might consider getting a mac is MS make windows 9 in the same way.
How is it a cheap look, it's just different. The positive aspects far outweigh the negatives, even if you dislike the start screen. It removes NO functionality, improves some and adds a lot.
TBH every new OS claims new functionalities. They may suit some users but the market will respond itself. I don't think Win8 worth the money to upgrade simply because Win7 does its job well at the moment. Besides, Microsoft's engagement of surface is not looking good at all. They want to make something that "changes the world" like apple did but they are just not quiet there yet.
I am torn, it is meant to be faster than 7 but with each new Windows it seems to become allegedly more intuitive, yet somehow more difficult to access for those with technical capabilities. Definately not keen on Metro, and cannot see the point of removing start buttons and things from view. An OS should be eaily controllable.
