    PDF viewer s/w

i need to view some pdf files and try as i might Adobe Acrobat seems to be allergic to my system, however many times i uninstall and reinstall it, whenever i try and start it it crashes at the opening logo hogging all spare cpu cycles and has to be manually shut down.

has anyone got any ideas how to fix this? or probably better still know of another free windows pdf viewer i can use? as it's rather urgent that i can acess these files.

    thanks for any help

thanks agent, but following most of the troubleshooting points (most of which have cleary been put in there just to keep you busy, and i'm not reinstalling windows), it still isn't working i've tried a number of pdf to other format converters but none of them produce a satisfactory output surely there has got to be a simple third part pdf viewer?

I've used goBCL (http://www.gobcl.com/) before to convert a Word document into a PDF. The site also does conversions to HTML from a variety of formats, including PDF I think, so that might be worth a try.

thanks, i tried using one of their programs before to convert pdf to plain text, but it didn't seem to work, using another one i just downloaded i managed to convert to semi legible html though, which is a start! it really needs to be fully legible though, i think i'm just going to have to use a different machine to do this work on

I have the full version of acrobat so if you want you can email me the pdf and I can convert it to pretty much whatever format you want. I've just had a try with a couple of pdfs and its perfectly legible.

From what I remember there is a PDF viewer called Ghostview, which is freely available from here: http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

Its not perfect, but it should do what you want it to. I don't know what printer you have, but it should be compatible.
