    Blu Ray Media Player?

OK I just recently reinstalled the software suite I got with the Samsung BD player I bought from Scan about 18 months ago but the sodding thing refuses to play newer DVDs. PowerDVD 9 is no longer being updated by Cyberlink

I'm not even going to get into how much of a rip off this is but I will be contacting Scan and Samsung as I have been sold a drive which has been rendered useless unless I pay thru the nose. To buy their software now will cost me more than the bloody drive cost in the 1st place! It would actually be cheaper to buy a separate Blu Ray player!

I was wondering if anyone here knows of any other decent media players that will play Blu Ray but at a reasonable cost? PowerDVD is £60-70, Nero £70 and WinDVD £60. Utterly ridiculous.

If I do buy a separate Blu Ray player such as this:

I assume these players have regular firmware updates so this would not be a problem?

    Re: Blu Ray Media Player?

Depends on the manufacturer and model, but in general yes stand alone blu-ray players are supported and receive firmware updates.

    Try VLC http://www.videolan.org/

I used to use PowerDVD9 on my HTPC, but bought a PS3 and now use it instead.

    Re: Blu Ray Media Player?

VLC doesn't play back Blu Ray. There is supposedly a way to get the latest version to do this. Tried it last night and it didn't work unfortunately.

    Re: Blu Ray Media Player?

Just got an email back from Scan and they are going to send me some new software so problem solved for the time being. To be honest I really wasn't expecting that. Don't know why as Scan have always been great and as per usual I can't fault them. They really are the best in the business
