    Wondows 8

    I've been given a iso on a CD of the RTM (32-bit) by my boss to try out.
    Can I just install this to my spare HDD and have a dual boot system ?
    My Bios is set to boot from SSD first, will it be clever enough to see the W8 and allow an choice ? How do I do this without borking my system ?

    Windows 8 will likely update/replace the boot loader on your SSD, and set up dual boot for you. Note: I'm not sure which OS it'll decide to mark as the default. The command "bcdedit" on the command line can be used to edit the Vista/7/8 boot loader (or use a GUI app like EasyBCD)

    Why not download Virtual Box (or another free VM software) and install it on a VM? I've got one running on my lappy at work and it's pretty smooth.

    Mainly becuase I've never run a VM in my life. What I know about it would fit on a very small piece of paper !

    It's actually surprisingly easy with the latest version of Virtual Box. I'm certainly no expert, but it's all pretty intuitive. Worth having a look at, as it keeps the Windows 8 system completely separated from your main work system.

    As with all Windows installations it will make the latest (8 in this case) the default (in order to complete installation unattended). You can simply change the boot order from the system properties in Windows - Control Panel\System and Security\System\Advanced System Settings\Startup and Recovery - without needing to touch the command line (you can also change the timeout value too if you like).

    Its very easy. Just make sure you have enough hard drive space for the VDI.
