Faster alternative to Freemake Video Convertor

Been using Freemake Video convertor and however awesome it is, i feel that it seems to be a bit slow in converting files. My Phenom X2 965 id OCed to 3.8 and when its converting it is only using about 40% of the CPU and i would expect it to use it all. It even seems to be using mainly 1 core as well.

I checked the Freemake website but there is no mention of multithreading.

Is there any other software that can do the same as Freemake but perform faster.

What are u converting from and to ?

I use Nero Recode or Nero Vision for transcoding and DVD making etc. Uses 100% of all four cores if I let it

Usually convert from my HD camcorder to mpeg for backup and usually avi files to MP4 for playback on my blackberry.

Freemake is good but find it slow sometimes

I went off Nero software years ago as found it frustrating sometimes.

AFAIK most people use handbrake, but it has a fairly limited set of output containers. The wiki page should give you a good indiciation of which programs support the features you require...

used handbrake before but only for the benchmarking.

I use a peice of software called XviD4PSP to convert soft subbed MKV's to hard subbed MP4 it uses X264 instead of H264 and the videos i get from it work with PS3/Xbox and it has many other presets for making videos that will work with a lot of devices, it uses all cores from what i can tell ive tested it with is an X6 phenom in the past with no problems, but if you do decide to try it avoid version 6 in my opinion, i find the older "5.037 full official" version much better.

I don't do much encoding myself, but I've used Media Coder in the past. It supports GPU & QuickSync acceleration, although it's probably not the easiest to use:

What are you trying to convert from/to?

If it's just mkv to mp4 I've had good success with ReBox.Net as a very quick tool to demux/remux a video

Gave handbrake a go and kept crashing my machine. CPU would go to 100% load and would not convert.

Might be doing something wrong.

Might try some of the others.

I use that too. It's a GUI for lots of open sauce encoder/decoders, including handbrake IIRC
