    Windows 7 Install issue

I have decided to build a new computer so I have a decent working computer then spend some time resolving the issues with my old computer.

The computer is built apart from the SSD which I am still waiting for. I have hooked up a temporary 320gb HDD. When I try to install windows I get the following:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks

This is new to me and not sure how to resolve this issue. I have googled but as yet not found an answer. Any ideas?

THe new computer is as follows:

    Intel Core i5 3570K,1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, 5 GT/s DMI, 650MHz GPU, 6MB Smart Cache, 34x Ratio, 77W,
    Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H, Intel Z77, S 1155, DDR3, SATA III - 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, PCIe 3.0, D-Sub/ DVI-D/ HDMI, ATX
    8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3 PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.5V

Sounds like the drive has a old installation of windows on it.

While in the windows 7 loader, delete the partition and make a new one. That will remove the MBR for you.

    Re: Windows 7 Install issue

I have already used disk part to clean the drive and create a new primary partition

Just boot from the DVD and wipe out any partition on there, then let Windows create the filesystem for you: you don't need to go through Diskpart prior to this unless you're dualbooting.

This does not work, I have already tried this and get the same message

    Re: Windows 7 Install issue

Did you enable UEFI BIOS boot mode/settings? If yes then that's your problem i.e. MBR won't work with UEFI and you have to use GPT (exactly as the error message suggests) - either enable legacy BIOS or create GPT partition on your 320GB disk...

No, unless it was a default setting in the bios, As far as I can see there is no option to enable legacy bios
