Firefox has had an issue for years now using overly large amounts of processing. Its about time! My opinions regarding Win 8 solely come down to the fact that it was not designed with consideration for desktop, or workstation users. As a developer i see nothing but obstacles with it. A well designed operating system should make things easily accessible, obvious as to their intentions, and easy to navigate. Microsoft have rules about how an operating system should function. And yet in this version, they've ignored even their own advice. For a tablet or mobile user i can see the advantages of it. But for conventional computer users all i can see is obstacles, and bad conventions. Win 7 is a brilliant operating system, i think i'll stick with it. Major windows release always bomb anyway. Look for the interim update in a couple of years: i bet all these problems will just 'disappear'

Re: To 8 or to hate?

    Starting to hate it.

Ironically, I have adapted to the UI substantially quicker than I thought and actually quite like it.....but under the hood it's broken

DPC latency causing stutters everywhere. On my HTPC a fresh install lasts 3 weeks at most before it corrupts and blue screens resuming from sleep, always with a BSOD about DPC. An add-in Silicon Image SATA controller disappears randomly.
On my main PC, no matter what I do, or how I install it, it always does a hard reset when resuming from sleep and I get the DPC stutter.

Of course, there is a chance that it is related to Intel chips and nVidia cards as both PCs have that in common but I am not seeing much info about on the subject at all...

Is DPC latency not down to the motherboard?

Re: To 8 or to hate?

Dual boot to Win 7 and there is no DPC stutter, PCs resume from sleep fine etc.

    So, it's not hardware/BIOS...

Re: To 8 or to hate?

Strangely mine now resumes from sleep fine, which it didn't under 7. I had to disable the fast boot mechanism though.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: To 8 or to hate?

Have been using 8.1 preview for over a month now. I thought I would never leave 7 but I have to say I'm not going back. No problems with Steam, Origin, Uplay. BF3, Diablo3 etc are all playing just fine.

    Give me 2K.
When not in use, turn off the juice.
Think of someone else instead of just yourself. There is far more to it than your utility bill.
