Question Second Hand Used PC with Vista Business Licence Sticker

    Hi All,

I just bought a second hand HP Compaq DC7700 for next to nothing to do some component checking and to run as a sort of test rig.

It was advertised without a HDD installed, so obviously no OS. On arrival, I have noticed that it has a Microsoft COA Licence sticker attached to it for "Windows Vista Business OEMAct".

So Does that mean that I can install windows Vista and use this key with it? I had a quick look on the MS site and found this page, which seems to indicate (text below) that I as I bought the PC the licence is attached to the PC, so it should be OK, right?

    A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the software media, manuals (if applicable), and Certificate of Authenticity label must be included. It is also advisable to include the original purchase invoice or receipt. The original end user cannot keep any copies of the software.
EDIT: This page seems to indicate that the OEM key should go with the PC, so I presume I'm kosher?

If I can use install and windows Vista , does it mean that I can then upgrade to windows 8 too, as described here?

Personally i would contact MS direct and make proper enquires don't rely on website info as this changes likke no tommorrow with MS....

Contact MS customer services then ask them if you can use the COA as this one on the side may well be OEM license which is not transferable

    Hope this helps

Its complications like this (and often the need to find the right oem DVD to installl from) that is the reason for the company selling it with no OS, and not mentioning the sticker...

OK, I'll give MS a shout and see what they say!
