    Server 2003 Installation problems.

As title, whilst registering components during the Installing Windows phase. Gets to the point of displaying 'setup will complete in approximately: 13 minutes' and just stops.

No blue screen just a lack of progress. Staus bar in the bottom right still moves and the messages still cycle through.

There is HDD activity but the LED seems to flash rythmically, the same sequence over and over.

    Anyone offer any advice?

More details on system available if required...........

Rioworks SDVIA dual board with 2 x PIIIs. 512mb PC 133 mem, Maxtor Drive. Generic floppy, CD Drive & GFX's.

Not sure how I would check the install log, I can't complete an installation. I've also been told that registering components during install can sometimes take up to 45 mins !!

    I'm trying again...............

is the board on the hcl? in fact - there doesn't seem to be one for 2003 unless someone knows better?
I take it you reformatted the disk from scratch, and you're only running what's listed?

I successfully installed on a dual 1ghz gigabyte board with 512 - running serverworks le chipset. I don't know anything about the rioworks - and I take it you've flashed the bios to latest revisions and have grabbed the latest io controller software for install.
I have a hunch the ami compatible ata controller might be at fault.

Scottyman, yep, latest BIOS. Full re-format. Forgot to mention the second NIC in addition to the onboard. Its 3Com and have never had problems with these whatever flavour of Windows I've been tinkering with. Still scratching my head. Had enough for today, will try again from the start tomorrow.

    regards

Well I must have been just a bit too impatient the first couple of times. Fresh install went ok, although the registering components phase took 47 mins !!

    Everything seems ok........................

ouch - that's pretty painful man!

good stuff - just remember... there's a few fun bits you'll have to change to get it working nicely - basic password rules are pre-hardened, but you'll still need to download more than a couple of patches!
worth getting perl and php on there if you're planning on doing any web stuff - works quite nicely on windows, and my install is running pretty quickly.
