Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger early 2013

This is what I did not want to hear, as I am in live convo with my wife while at work on windows messenger because she is disabled and if I do not hear off her in 15 minutes I know something is wrong, Microsoft is moving over to Skype and in windows 8 it is only full screen which will be no good as I need to be working on my laptop with a small window for messenger it makes it really handy, Just hope they make Skype so it will go to a small window while in desktop or I will have to find something else to use.

We do have mobiles but the wife has trouble with using it due to her hands full of arthritis.

I'm pretty sure the win32 build of skype which you download from the skype website will still install as a windowed application. While the skype you download from the win8 app store is where you'd be stuck in fullscreen mode.

Even if Microsoft does ditch the Live Essential suite (I can't see it, just yet), I'm sure it'll keep working, the same messaging backend stuff Win8 Metro messaging uses will still work with WLM, at least until it bitrots after a few years, so probably no need to panic just yet.

I will certainly try an older version of Skype to install, and let you know if I can get it working in Desktop.
