windows 98 or windows xp pro CDROM boot disk?

Both the Win98SE CD and the WinXP CD's are bootable.

You don't need a floppy to install either.

Just remember to change your BIOS to boot from CD before your HDD.

mines just standard 98, not se and cant get it to boot ?? you know where i could source one ?

The xp disc should defianatly be bootable, win2k will also work if you've got that

on the boot disk site ? sure i got onto it earlier could only seem to get floppy images, how would i go about writing it as a bootable cd ? or do i just write all the files on a normal boot disk to it ?

But search for bootable ISO in Google. Should be plenty.


EDIT - Give Nero a try by making a bootable CD using the image for a Win98 boot floppy...

all i can find on google is how to make a boot disk, and i cant be bothered :\ cant find no isos

What's up with your XP CD?
It DOES Boot - Unless it's a shoddily copied CD.
Are you just trying to get AN OS on there?
What makes you think the FDD has died? Is the LED always on?

If you stick the HDD into another Win98 PC... Format the drive using:
format /s
Then copy the Win98 folder to the drive.

i havnt tried my xp cd, but ideally i need 98 - none se so i dont think it will boot

i think my floppy drive controller is dead as when it boots, it detects it and it comes up - tried to read it and says 'dick read error' then tried to boot off the hdd which is blank and says press crtl alt and del to restart

even with the boot disk in tried 3 different floppy drives ? need to fix it for tonight really for my mate
