Benchmarking Software for GPU performance in games

looking to finish of my readers review of my new card however i am trying to find freeware software to use to do this.

I have fraps to get FPS but unsure how to make it show me average FPS.

Can anyone please point me in the direction of the right kind stuff to use and how to use it.

Never done this before.

Remember software like FRAPS does reduce framerate slightly. I have done some FRAPS benchmarks in this thread:

You toggle recording with a key,and you will get the numbers recorded in a file with various measurements. One of them is FPS,which you can do the plots I did.

MSI Afterburner also can display framerates too.

If you use MSI Afterburner it plots the average FPS on a graph for you, you can start Afterburner with the full screen plots running in the background, play your game for as long as you want and then alt-tab to bring Afterburner to the front and do a print screen to grab an image of the graph, which is how I would do it.

My plots were for up to 4 minutes though,so would MSI Afterburner be fine for that??

Yeah, it would be, you can do longer plots too and even set your own hardware polling period in milliseconds as well, plus I use it to monitor my GPU temps and usage, all of which can be plotted on the same graph at the same time.

I wasn't monitoring the temps on this one, I just wanted to record FPS, GPU usage and VRam usage on the Crysis 3 Alpha when I recorded this graph, but with just FPS selected as the main item to monitor it would be easy to read frame rates on the graph.

I use it to monitor temperature and GPU utilisation too. I have not really thought of using it for FPS graphs,although TBH,I do prefer doing the graphs myself if possible.

BTW,the Crysis3 MP Alpha is quite CPU heavy when I tried it, even more than Crysis2 I suspect.

If you have two monitors, you can leave the graphs on full screen on the second monitor while the game runs on the first monitor, which is how I run it.

BTW,the Crysis3 MP Alpha is quite CPU heavy when I tried it, even more than Crysis2 I suspect.

This being the Alpha version it was hard to tell how it would use resources, the Alpha doesn't even support multi GPU systems so for the most part the second GTX580 was running idle with some strange and unexpected spikes and as the game has no Physx support either I can't think of a reason for this.
