Firefox to block Java, Adobe Reader (PDF) and Silverlight by default

You will have to 'click to play' like many of us run Flash.

But that for me is the killer, which one is missing... Flash.

I also find it funny that no mention of blocking Javascript!

But lastly silverlight..... Why silverlight? It's not really bad

I think FireFox team has missed a trick here. They could have automatic click to unblock for any un-patched or out of date version of any plugin.

Instead this looks just shifty.

FF18 has been a complete pain for me. Many Java sites just do not work (including Netscaler VPX administration).

There's always the good old NoScript extension for more precise control over what is blocked.

Click to run on plugins is great. Love it. Really, I actually do. Yes I get ugly grey squares on websites with flash but it saves a lot of CPU cycles for things that really don't need to be so 'flashy'. On Chrome though so can't comment on the Firefox bit, can't say I have Adobe Reader or Silverlight installed on any machine either...

I'm just saying, what the hell are they doing applying it so wrong. One of the most dangerous plugins is not blocked, yet one of the safest is.

The safety of silverlight when compared to FireFox is very good. For every security flaw in silverlight there has been almost 100 in Firefox.
